Perspectives evolve over time. Whether honed or broadened, the willingness to embrace another point of view creates an opportunity for something new…something unexpected. Enter our 2020 “Deep Cuts” Chardonnay, and a new perspective of winemaking for me here at Melville.
As a winery that has been successfully “beating the drum” of neutral oak for over twenty years, it’s entirely foreign to introduce a wine that has been aged in 100% new oak. An analogy that speaks to me as a music-minded guy is that I’ve been playing acoustic for years, and couldn’t resist the opportunity to plug in for this track. After all, it’s only 51 cases, and we want to show our fans another side of Melville…a ‘deep cut’…something unexpected.
So, here we have it. Aged on the lees in 100% new Schneckenleitner Austrian oak for a full two years to allow for a more complete and harmonious integration, the introduction of new oak amplifies the vibrancy, tension and texture synonymous with Sta. Rita Hills chardonnays without compromising the delicate balance of concentrated fruit flavors and ripe acidity.
We have a very limited amount available…so limited that we are capping at 3 bottles per order with hopes that more than a few of you can add this special bottling to your cellar. (members only)
